Hadley owns a dike system on the east bank of the Connecticut River. It totals about 3.2 miles: 1.7 miles of earthen levee north of West Street, running from Rocky Hill Road and River Drive up to the Honey Pot section, plus roughly 1.5 miles of protection carried by the Norwottuck Rail Trail berm alongside Route 9. It was built in 1928 and then enlarged and repaired after the 1936 flood and the 1938 hurricane. The system is not currently accredited by FEMA.
