The USACE National Inventory of Dams lists its hazard potential as High and its Condition Assessment as Poor, dated April 16, 2024, and reporting from June 2024 recorded the rehabilitation design as about 45 percent complete. More than 30 dams are registered in Hamden. Connecticut DEEP owns Lake Wintergreen Dam on Wintergreen Brook and three Farm Brook flood risk reduction structures, all rated High hazard with Satisfactory condition assessments in 2023 and 2024, while Clarks Pond Dam on the Mill River is rated Significant with a Satisfactory assessment dated November 1, 2022.

The Newhall Stormwater Program

Two funded actions target the same neighborhood: a 9 million dollar Newhall Stormwater Management Improvements project for 2025 to 2026, described as a hybrid of traditional and green infrastructure developed through community engagement, and a 200,000 dollar Newhall Drainage Improvements action working with CIRCA on the public water supply watershed resilience opportunity area. The town also records that funding has been secured to design improvements for the stormwater system in the Newhall Street and Mill Rock area. June 1982, and two independent records agree on it. The USGS gage 01196620, Mill River near Hamden, peaked on June 6, 1982 at 5,580 cubic feet per second and a gage height of 9.53 feet. The USACE National Inventory of Dams lists Lake Whitney Dam on the Mill River as owned by the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority, with a hazard potential of High, a drainage area of 37.4 square miles, and a Condition Assessment of Poor dated April 16, 2024.
